His story
Amir Nasr-Azadani is an Iranian footballer who was sentenced to 16 years in prison for taking part in the January 2022 national uprising.
He was found guilty of "partaking in enmity against God."
A former teammate of Nasr-Azadani previously described the court ruling as absurd. He said: "Knowing Amir’s character, he would go to a protest. He and his friends would stand up for basic rights, for women’s rights, of course, because he is the sort of person who cares about others."
He is considered one of the most well-known imprisoned athletes following Iran’s 2022 protests.
